Google AdWords Redesign

Yesterday, via their AdWords blog announced they are beginning a major redesign of the AdWords platform.  This update will take place over the next two years, being completed in 2017. Google offered a little insight into what the actual changes might be. Below is a picture of what the new adwords may look like from their blog:

2016-03-30 09_34_31-Inside AdWords_ Redesigning AdWords for marketing in a mobile-first world

According to their blog, Adwords will focus more on businesses, and creating a more user-friendly platform by making it easier to manage campaigns. Here is a quote from the post:

“At the end of the day, you need simple yet powerful tools that help you do more in less time. You should be able to complete your most important tasks, like managing ad extensions and building reports, all in one place. With less clutter and more intuitive workflows, you can quickly make the changes that move your business forward.”

So When will these changes take place? In the next two years according to Google:

“Through 2016 and into 2017, we’ll continue to build out this new AdWords experience, and invite advertisers along the way to try it out and provide feedback. Invites will be sent based on a number of factors, therefore not all advertisers will be able to test the new experience right away.”

We are looking forward to seeing what the new changes will be like.

Use Content to Drive Results

download (5)

In a recent blog from SearchEngineJournal I found some new and interesting ways to use your content to drive your marketing results to new levels. Here are some of my favorite methods from that article

Reach Customers on a Personal Level With Audio

Lots of people listen to podcasts.  According to Maximize Social Business, an estimated 46 million Americans over the age of 12 listen to podcasts on a monthly basis. It’s one of the most popular types of audio content out there. Lots of people feel a connexion feel a with the podcaster. Think about it: Who do you normally go to the gym with or take a road trip with? A friend. Investing in content that creates this same feeling might be just the thing you need to build a deeper connection.

Use Video Replies to Deeply Connect 1-on-1

It’s a simple tactic that takes just a few seconds of extra effort. Instead of responding to @mentions in a standard text tweet, use Twitter’s video feature. This is a great way to drive engagement and get your feet wet with video content at the same time.

Expand Your Brand as a Podcast Guest

Pitch your message to podcast owners and try to land spots as a guest. Remember, most podcasters rely on interviews to keep their show going. When you land an interview, go above and beyond for the show’s audience. I like to create a small exclusive giveaway to offer the listeners. Throw up a nice landing page for the giveaway and use it as an opportunity to build your email list.

Display Unique Messages Based on Behavior

You’ll be amazed by the results you can generate with a bit of dynamic content.  Display unique messages based on data like location, behavior, and acquisition source. There is plenty of software available to help you with this process. Get  setup, create your content variations and enjoy the increased impact that it brings.

SEO tips: URL Structure.

url

URL structure is an important aspect of technical and should be taken into account early on to reduce any potential issues over time.

URLs should be concise and include keywords as much as possible without keyword stuffing. A method to make sure that a URL is concise with keywords is to use a static URL over a dynamic URL. The static URL should follow the pattern of the navigation and how visitors navigate throughout the site. By making the URL structure follow the navigation format, you can create a hierarchy that helps search engines associate certain pages together as opposed to a flat URL structure.

There are other situations that  yourURLs should stay away from.  There should not be any underscores or uppercase letters in a URL structure as the various search engines deal with them differently.

Do not change the URL structure of your website for the sake of SEO. Changing the URL structure is a strategy that should only be applied when appropriate.

When it comes to boosting traffic, offline sources are usually overlooked. Check out these offline methods for driving customers to your website, handy tips from the SearchEnginePeople blog

Put Your Site And Logo On Branded Merchandise

The bag is something that customers will actually find practically useful. They’ll use it time and time again when they go shopping. This will constantly remind them of your brand. Other tangible, real-world items that also work well include branded t-shirts and mugs. As added bonuses, you’ll promote a positive image of your business and increase customer loyalty.

Print Out Brochures And Flyers

Flyers and brochures might seem like an old-fashioned marketing method, but there are occasions when flyers and brochures become an effective means of driving web traffic. In the most general case, apart from trade event and shows, local businesses may distribute their brochures and flyers at grocery stores, coffee shops and libraries, which have boards or some sort of space where you can post your flyer.

Utilize Print Ads

Print ads still have their place, even in a digital world. According to statistics from iProspect and Jupiter Research, magazine ads drive about 30% of readers to websites. And while you can’t necessarily fit as much information and persuasive copy into a magazine ad as a flyer or brochure, you can still include enough to motivate the reader and drive traffic to your site.

Create And Share  Business Cards

Business cards still have their place in modern marketing, despite what you may have heard. They’re the favored means of swapping information at conferences, and can serve as a memorable means of promoting your brand’s uniqueness in any real-word situation. Furthermore, they can be an excellent tool for driving relevant traffic to your site.

Attend And/Or Sponsor Events

Attending events enables you to build relationships with those interested in the same industry, trade or niche as you. Use this opportunity to impact others in the physical world and drive more traffic to your site.

Speed up your eCommerce website for more sales

Page load time is a customer service must do.  Getting good load times will give website owners a substantial edge over  competition. Why? According to Kissmetrics, the average e-commerce website takes 6.5 seconds to load – and a 1-second delay equates to a 7% drop in conversions. So are e-commerce sites are getting faster to deal with this issue? Apparently not, They’re slowing down, by 23% a year. This opens up a great opportunity for quick minded website owners take the lead. Amazon found out that it increased revenue by 1% for every 100 milliseconds of improvement.

How can you accelerate load speeds?

Start with static caching. If your site uses dynamic languages like PHP, they can add to lag times. Turn dynamic pages static and web servers will just serve them up without processing, speeding up load times.

CSS and JavaScript might need  tweaking as well.  Try tools like CSS Compressor to slim down the style sheet element of pages and make them load quicker.

And don’t forget about images. While most people realizes the advantage of smaller file sizes, specifying images height and width are often overlooked. When you visit a URL, the browser downloads all the data on the page and begins rendering it together. If image sizes haven’t been specified, the browser has no idea how large they’re going to be until after they’ve fully downloaded. This delay forces the browser to “repaint” the layout.

Finally, if you have a big, content-rich site, try using multiple servers so your content is loading several items at a time.

Use Reddit search to discover winning content ideas

download (1)

The amount of content on Reddit is huge, and Reddit can be a source of high levels of traffic.  Here’s a quick walkthrough of some of the techniques you can use to mine the gold that i found on the Searchenginewatch Blog

1. Install RES

There is an extension called the Reddit Enhancement Suite, which allows you to improve and customize the Reddit experience.

2. Use the search tool

Use reddit’s search box to find content on the topic you are interested in

3. Get to grips with the subreddits

For most searches you’ll see a bunch of popular sub-categories (aka ‘subreddits’) relevant to the content you’re looking for.

You can subscribe to these, open them up in new tabs to check them out later, or ignore them.

4. Explore popular posts

Directly underneath the subreddit results you’ll see lots of individual posts. Some of these will be to third party sites. Others will be ‘self’ posts, where the user creates a text-based post (these are often question-based).

Posts are sorted by ‘relevance‘, by default. Relevance is pretty much keyword orientated.

The two other sorting options are ‘top’, which is based on the number of votes, or ‘comments’, which is self-explanatory.

5. Use the ‘time’ filter

Reddit will also unearth posts since the dawn of time (aka ‘2006’, when it was born). That’s fine, but it’s often better to see what’s been working recently.

uuji

just announced that its mobile-friendly ranking signal is about to get stronger.

In May an update will be released for Google Search which increases the effects of the mobile-friendly ranking signal. Google’s aim is to “help users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly”.

Nowadays, when searching on a mobile device it’s not all that unusual to see non-mobile friendly sites show up on the front page. Perhaps with this latest update, Mobile users will find fewer pages in search that are not optimized for a mobile device.

If your site is mobile-friendly already, Google says you will not be impacted by the pending update. The company reminds us that the intent of a search query is still a strong ranking signal.
